Disease Prevention and Treatment: Fourth Edition; 2003; Life Extension Foundation. Extensive compilation of innovative ways to prevent and treat disease through lifestyle, diet, supplements and drugs. Recommended although some of the therapies are thin on clinical evidence.
Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine: Second Edition; Murray and Pizzorno; 1998; Prima Publishing. Excellent source of alternative therapies, highly recommended but a little dated already.
The Complete Self-care Guide to Holistic Medicine: Ivker, Anderson, Trivieri; 1999, Tarcher/Putnam. Another excellent guide to alternative therapies with a good section on healing the mind and spirit as well as the body.
The Way of Qigong: The Art and Science of Chinese Energy Healing; Kenneth Cohen; 1997; Ballantine Books. Excellent introduction to this ancient healing system. Many practical exercises outlined.
From Fatigued to Fantastic: Jacob Teitelbaum; 2001;Avery Books. Well written book on chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia by an expert who has developed effective treatment protocols. If you have no idea how to start, read this.
The Thyroid Solution: A Revolutionary Mind-Body Program that will help you; Ridha Arem; Ballentine Books. Excellent book on thyroid problems by an endocrinologist.
The Metabolic Typing Diet: William Wolcott; 2000; Broadway Books.Well written book on how to customize the type of diet best for your body.
Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom: Christiane Northrup; 1998; Bantam.Written for women, this wonderful book is full of insight and wisdom on how to heal.
Getting Thru to Your Emotions with EFT: Mountrose and Mountrose; 2000; Holistic Communications. Explains how to use a self healing technique called emotional freedom technique that is very powerful and yet simple.
Conscious Loving: The Journey to Co-commitment; Hendricks and Hendricks; 1990; Bantam. Excellent book for couples to learn how to communicate, resolve issues and operate from the heart.
Adrenal Fatigue: The 21 st Century Stress Syndrome; James Wilson; 2001, Smart Publications. A basic book on what you need to know about this very common but little known medical condition.
Natural Detoxification: A Practical Encyclopedia; Krohn and Taylor; 2000; Hartley and Marks Publishers. Comprehensive book about all kinds of detoxification methods for all types of toxins.
Detoxify or Die: Sherry Rogers. Good book for explaining why we are toxic and methods to remove toxins.

The Holistic Pediatrician: Kathi Kemper MD; 1996; Harper Perennial. Straightforward book on 25 common childhood conditions and the use of standard and alternative therapies, written by an academic pediatrician.
Nourishing Traditions: Sally Fallon, 2000. Many excellent recipes and facts about what foods are healthy.
Know Your Fats: The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils, and Cholesterol; Mary Enig; 2000; Bethesda Press. Good overview of fats but somewhat technical.
Nutrition and Physical Degeneration: Weston Price; 1939; Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation. A classic field study of “primitive peoples” from around the world. Cultures that ate local unprocessed foods had healthy teeth and little cancer or degenerative disease.
Radical Healing: Rudolph Ballentine; 1999; Harmony Books. Excellent discussion of healing and various ways to approach it.
Wherever You Go, There You Are: Jon Kabat-Zinn; 1994; Hyperion. Very accessible discussion of mindfulness meditation and how to do it.
Conscious Eating: Gabriel Cousens; 2000; North Atlantic Books. A spiritual orientation to eating a vegan diet with many recipes.
