HEALING

Disease is the body trying to heal an out of balance system. The symptoms are intelligent directed attempts by the innate healing power of the human body to restore harmony and equilibrium. Someone with disease is in a process of change. The change can be toward greater health or toward decay and death. The current orthodox medical paradigm is to suppress symptoms and change. This old model does not address the source of illness and tends to drive it deeper into the body. Eventually it will become worse. A new model for treatment supports and encourages the change so that the healing process can finish and the organism can evolve into a higher state of health. Disease may, and frequently does, require that a person grow emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Only through this growth is the physical healing able to be completed.

This growth is confusing to many as the new experience of illness upsets the status quo that may have been comfortable and secure. However, as the person makes changes to move in the direction of more wholeness and integrity, adaptation sets in to restore a new level of wellness. In the new model of holistic healing practice, the doctor and patient are undergoing a journey together. The objective is to complete the journey, whatever the outcome. Life, that mysterious energy within each of us, has chosen to evolve and disease is one of the most powerful ways to do so.

People who develop illness tend to live in their persona (personality, ego, mask, identifications). The persona is thick, rigid, restrictive of learning, not authentic, and more concerned with image, safety, security, fear and winning. Our character is our essential self. It values learning, transformation, authenticity, purpose, openness, trust and compassion. What motivates you?

Evoking the innate healing process within is possible for those with insight, focus and dedication. First is to love and nurture your entire being. What do you need that you are not giving to your body, mind or spirit? You cannot do it all at once so be willing to gradually introduce new ideas, thoughts and behaviors into your life. Take advantage of the huge amount of information on healing that is now available by book, CD, tape, journal, newsletter, seminars and directly from healers. Be willing to undertake a cleansing of your physical body, especially the digestive system. If you have the resources in time and money, consider a healing retreat. This allows time to focus on the different levels of healing and to initiate the process of change. Once change is consciously undertaken, it becomes much easier to continue change and grow into wholeness and well-being. If you can, find a guide (or guides) who can help you make choices, overcome obstacles and give feedback and support.
