ENERGY HEALING
Energetic healing is an ancient method of healing that involves identifying and releasing blocks in the subtle energy layers of the human body. These energy fields are now being studied by Western trained scientists and evidence is accumulating that we indeed are composed of energy as well as dense matter. The conceptual framework I was trained to use is based on the Hindu system of chakras. These energy centers are located from the base of the spine to the top of the skull. Each center has specific functions and blocks can lead to symptoms and diseases in the area.
Extensive training and experience allows an energy healer to read the energy field and guide the client’s awareness to the location of the blocks. By giving feedback to the client and holding them in unconditional love, healers are usually able to help people permanently release old emotional traumas and old beliefs that no longer are beneficial. Physical healing is also possible in many cases as the client frees up energy previously unavailable for self-regulation and healing. A client must have trust in the healer and must also be willing to experience the old energy stuck in their body before they can release it.
An excellent book that I recommend highly for those interested in this area is Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith (Celestial Arts Press, 1996). This has a simple to understand description of the chakras and sections on how to heal problems in each area.
There are a number of techniques that involve working with the human energy field. Reiki is a system developed by a Japanese named Mikao Usai in which certain symbols are visualized and healing energy is sent to the client. The origins of the system are said to be very ancient. Many healers in America have been trained in this system as it is simple to learn and use.
Another energetic healing technique is titled Therapeutic Touch, which was developed in the 1970’s by Dolores Kreiger, a nurse. Considerable research has been done on this technique and many nurses have trained in how to do it.
Although numerous systems have been developed in recent years, they all work with the same energy fields. Currently, there is no licensing system for healers who do this kind of work. If you are interested in an energy healer, ask them to describe their training and experience. If you feel safe with them, give it a trial. A skilled healer and a willing client can create tremendous changes in energy flow that lead to increased health and an expanded viewpoint of one’s self as a spiritual being of radiant energy.
My training in energy healing was a 10-week course spread out over 18 months. I spent 500 hours in the school and did over 200 practice healings before graduating from the School of Energy Mastery in 1997. The school is currently located in Angwin, CA. I have since done hundreds more healings and every one is different. The more I open my heart and allow spirit to guide me, the more I am able to assist people in their healing process.
